Secrets Shared - Machu Picchu & Cuzco

Cuzco Cooking
We always like to try the local cuisine, so while in Cuzco we were delighted to find Pacha Papa restaurant on Plaza San Blas 120. It had a traditional “quinta” feel and we really enjoyed the Cusquenian specialities, which were all very nicely presented, in an outdoor courtyard area. Our favourite dishes were tamales (corn meal dough stuffed with tasty fillings including meat and cheese) and lechón (roasted baby pork).

Surprise in Store
I defy anyone to visit Peru and return home without a suitcase full of shopping. I bought several pieces of very sophisticated silver jewellery at Ilaria (there is a store inside the Hotel Monasterio and others around town); the softest alpaca scarves and a pashmina at Alpaca 111 (I only just resisted the vicuña gloves!) and a beautiful traditional-style silver necklace set with unusual stones from Carlos Chaquiras (a block from Hotel Monasterio, at Triunfo Street 375).
I was not surprised to find these great local craft shops but what I wasn’t prepared for was Outlet, a few doors along at Triunfo Street 392. I found all sorts of sportswear from international brands such as Armani, DKNY and Abercrombie & Fitch at amazing prices. Irresistible!
